Kien Giang Border Guard - the mainstay of people in border areas

(KGO) - Kien Giang is located in the southwest of the country, with a sea area of over 63,000 square kilometers, a land border with the Kingdom of Cambodia of nearly 50 kilometers and a coastline of over 200 kilometers. Kien Giang Border Guard units stationed in the border, sea and island areas, despite many difficulties and hardships, officers and soldiers are always steadfast in politics and ideology, actively competing to complete assigned tasks well.

According to Colonel Pham Van Thang - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Commander of the Kien Giang Border Guard Command, the Kien Giang Border Guard force proactively and comprehensively deployed all aspects of border work; arranged forces and means to perform the tasks of managing and protecting borders, sea areas and islands; preventing and combating illegal entry and exit and preventing and combating epidemics; resolutely and synchronously implementing measures to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

During the process of construction, development and implementation of tasks, Kien Giang Border Guard actively participated in building the grassroots political system, developing the local economy, culture and society, enthusiastically supporting and helping the people.

Having lived in the border area for decades, Ms. Thi My Loan, residing in Xa Xia quarter, My Duc ward (Ha Tien city) said that the programs and models of the border guards such as shelters for the poor in the border and island areas, accompanying women in the border areas, border spring warms the hearts of the villagers, helping children go to school, fostering children at border stations... are widely known by the people.

“The border guards protect the border, the border markers, keep the border area peaceful and often help the people, so we love them very much. Whenever I encounter difficulties, I immediately think of the border guards and when they need anything, I am ready to participate,” said Ms. Loan.

The image of the green-uniformed soldier is increasingly highlighted in the hearts of the people with many meaningful and practical activities. Kien Giang Border Guards sponsored 83 students in difficult circumstances (VND 500,000/month/child); the adopted children of the border guard station sponsored 4 children (support of VND 2 million/month/child); supported and sponsored 147 students in the project "Army officers and soldiers help children go to school".

Colonel Huynh Van Dong - Party Secretary, Political Commissar of Kien Giang Border Guard Command said that every year, Kien Giang Border Guard force gives hundreds of gifts to prestigious people, poor households, builds warm homes in the border areas, participates in building rural roads, repairs houses, helps people work, produce..., contributing to consolidating and strengthening the solidarity between the army and the people.

Giang Thanh district has many ethnic groups such as Kinh, Hoa, Khmer. Kien Giang Border Guard has increased mobilization of ethnic groups to participate in protecting territorial sovereignty, maintaining political security, order and social safety in border areas.

Venerable En Thunh - abbot of Giong Ke pagoda, Phu Loi commune (Giang Thanh) said: "In the locality, the border guards help the people a lot, so the people love and trust them. The pagoda has coordinated with border guards and soldiers to propagate to Buddhist followers and people in the border area to raise awareness of protecting the border, landmarks, preventing and combating smuggling, illegal entry and exit, participating in maintaining a stable border area, people taking care of their business, contributing to building an increasingly prosperous border area".

On the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the Border Guard's tradition day and the 36th anniversary of the People's Border Guard Day, on the border, sea and island lines, the soldiers in green uniforms are still stepping up the work of staying close to and grasping the area. Border guards have stepped up propaganda and mobilized people to participate in firmly protecting the territorial sovereignty and national border security. Border guards are embellishing the tradition of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the hearts of the people every day.
