Ninh Binh province (new) was established on the basis of merging three provinces: Ha Nam, Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh , with its political and administrative center located in Ninh Binh province (currently Hoa Lu city).
After the merger, Ninh Binh province has an area of over 3,942 km², a population of over 4.4 million people, and 129 commune-level administrative units (including 97 communes and 32 wards).
