Interprefy’s AI translation tool is called Aivia. The Zurich-based company says it will initially offer AI translation services in 24 different languages.

"We are pushing AI translation services globally with more languages," Oddmund Braaten, CEO of Interprefy, told The Next Web . CEO Braaten confidently asserted that Aivia is the most accurate and flexible AI voice translator on the world market at the present time.

"Aivia essentially integrates three main AI technologies: automatic speech recognition, machine translation, and synthetic speech generation," added Oddmund Braaten.

With Aivia, you just need to "press a button" and the tool will automatically "translate" with voice and subtitles in real time. "This is the world's first advanced AI translation service for both online and live events," CEO Oddmund Braaten emphasized.

To make translations more accurate, Interprefy has built a benchmarking tool to evaluate the best AI for any language combination. The company also uses a glossary extraction tool to further customize Aivia for each event. This pre-populates the system with relevant keywords and obscure names or abbreviations from relevant content.

Advances in AI translation technology are raising concerns that the profession of interpreters will be "disadvantaged" in the future. Regarding this, CEO Braaten believes that AI and humans can play complementary roles.

"Only skilled linguists can interpret the subtleties of context, tone, humor, and idioms. Furthermore, they are the only safe option for sensitive content. Only interpreters have the ability to adapt the translation to any situation, as well as interpret and explain non-verbal information such as body language and tone.

In contrast, AI is better suited to situations where nuance is rare and risk is low. In these cases, AI translation can provide a more reasonable and practical alternative," Braaten argues.
