This is not only the most important tournament of the year for Vietnamese athletics but also a general review of forces in preparation for the 33rd SEA Games. According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Nguyen, in charge of the Athletics Department - Vietnam Sports Administration, the achievements at this year's tournament will be the basis for professional assessment to select athletes for the 33rd SEA Games.

National players are given the opportunity to compete for their home teams. This is an opportunity to test each individual's abilities after a year of training.

At this year's tournament, "super runner" Nguyen Thi Oanh will compete for Bac Ninh - a unit formed after the merger of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh. Registering to compete in 4 events: 1,500 m, 3,000 m hurdles, 5,000 m and 10,000 m, she is fully capable of winning all 4 gold medals after her hat-trick of championships at last year's National Championship. General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation Nguyen Manh Hung commented: "Nguyen Thi Oanh is still the key factor, holding the advantage in medium and long events".

Meanwhile, Le Tu Chinh - a former national player - will officially compete for medals for the Ca Mau team in the two events of the women's 100m and 200m after the transfer waiting period ends. She is expected to return to her best form after a long absence.

This year's women's 100m event has 32 athletes participating. Notable faces include: Ha Thi Thu, Tran Thi Nhi Yen, Phung Thi Hue... In the women's high jump event, reigning champion Pham Quynh Giang (HCMC) is absent due to injury, creating opportunities to compete for the highest position for new faces such as Mai Ngoc Anh (CAND), Bui Thi Kim Anh ( Ninh Binh ) or Duong Thi Thao (Army).

The 2025 National Athletics Championship will organize a total of 50 events. Of which, the relay events (4 x 100 m, 4 x 200 m, 4 x 400 m, 4 x 800 m and mixed relay) promise many exciting competitions.

At the 2024 National Athletics Championship, the top 9 units in the medal tally are: Hanoi, Army, Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Tinh, Dong Nai, Da Nang, People's Public Security, Bac Giang and Thanh Hoa.
