On February 19, the People's Committee of Cho Moi district coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province to organize a ceremony to announce "exporting seedless mangoes to the Korean market and linking production and consumption of mangoes according to the value chain".

Accordingly, Hoang Phat Fruit Limited Company purchased 13 tons of mangoes with small seeds to export to this market. At the announcement ceremony, Hoang Phat Fruit Company also signed a contract to link the consumption of mangoes including green-skinned elephant mangoes (large fruit) and small-seeded mangoes (small fruit) with Cu Lao Gieng GAP Cooperative.

A representative of the GAP Cu Lao Gieng Cooperative said that the price of mangoes in recent days has fluctuated over 20,000 VND/kg. The company bought this mango with small seeds at 32,000 VND/kg for export. This is a green-skinned elephant mango but it weighs small, about 3-4 fruits/kg and has small seeds, so it is called a mango with small seeds.

From the fourth quarter of 2021 to present, the cooperative has cooperated with many import-export companies inside and outside An Giang province to export over 293 tons of VietGAP 3-color mangoes and seedless mangoes to the US and Korean markets.

Previously, in early January 2024, Cu Lao Gieng Cooperative also signed an agreement with Vina T&T Company Limited to export green-skinned elephant mangoes to the Australian and US markets. This event marked the first step in developing cooperation in production and consumption between Cu Lao Gieng GAP Cooperative and fruit import-export companies.

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association said that in addition to items such as durian, dragon fruit, banana, etc., mango has become a product with large export turnover in the fruit and vegetable industry. The export of a batch of seedless mangoes by Cu Lao Gieng GAP Cooperative to the Korean market opens up great potential for mango exports to this market.

However, Mr. Nguyen also noted that Korea is a demanding market, requiring high technology, and mangoes exported to this market must meet many strict conditions regarding heat treatment.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy - Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of An Giang province said that exporting mangoes to demanding markets such as the US, Australia, Korea and conquering other demanding markets in the world requires great efforts and struggles of the Party committees, authorities and enterprises, especially cooperatives and farmers of Cho Moi district. This is a process of more than 10 years of arduous and challenging negotiations.

Mangoes must strictly meet the strict requirements of import partners regarding pesticide content, harmful insects, traceability, irradiation, etc.

To support people and cooperatives, Ms. Thuy said the province will always create favorable conditions to support businesses and farmers to build stable mango material areas, promoting sustainable development of the mango value chain in the coming time.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, the province currently has nearly 18,000 hectares of fruit trees. Of which, the mango area reaches 12,303 hectares, and in Cho Moi district alone, the mango area produced according to VietGAP standards reaches over 704 hectares. Currently, the province has 41 green-skinned mango growing area codes with an area of over 6,149 hectares exported to markets such as China, the US, South Korea, Japan, and Australia.
