These days, durian gardens in Ba Ria - Vung Tau are busy with harvest season, all over the roads in Xa Bang and Lang Lon communes (Chau Duc district) are bustling with traders buying.

Although the harvest season is 1 to 1.5 months later than usual, many durian gardens in Ba Ria - Vung Tau still have a bumper crop, high productivity and guaranteed output thanks to safe production and growing area codes.
According to statistics, the whole Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has about 1,400 hectares of durian, with an average yield of 10-15 tons/ha. The province is continuing to support farmers to expand the growing area eligible for export to stabilize output and increase income.
In Lang Lon commune, Chau Duc district, Mr. Danh Nguyen said that his family's 1.5-hectare durian garden this year yielded about 20 tons, an increase of 5 tons compared to last year. Although the selling price was only 36,000 VND/kg, lower than last year (more than 50,000 VND/kg), he still earned a profit of more than 500 million VND thanks to increased productivity and controlled costs. He explained that the garden is in its prime and is well cared for, so it has a high fruit yield.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Huu Be's 3.5-hectare durian garden in the same commune, with 2 hectares in harvest, achieved a yield of about 40 tons, 10 tons higher than last year. Although the selling price of Ri6 durian is only 35,000 VND/kg, his family can still make a profit of about 900 million VND. Mr. Be's garden has been granted a growing area code and achieved a 3-star OCOP certification.
According to Mr. Doan Duc Hoa, Director of Lien Duc Durian Cooperative (Xa Bang commune), the cooperative currently has 30 members and has been granted 4 durian growing area codes, with an area of 85 hectares and is exporting to China.
Although this year's durian price is quite cheap compared to last year, the cooperative still focuses on investing in production according to strict and safe processes, so the output is stable and the price is still guaranteed to be better than the market price.
"The cooperative has always warned its members about the cadmium content affecting the quality of durian. The cooperative has also purchased a machine to measure the cadmium content in the gardens to detect early and handle it promptly," said Mr. Hoa.
At the same time, the cooperative also recommends that farmers increase the use of organic fertilizers and biological pesticides and minimize the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides so as not to affect product quality and the Vietnamese durian brand.
Thanks to following a closed safety process, the cooperative's consumption is quite good. This year, Lien Duc cooperative expects to harvest 600 tons of durian, of which the majority will be exported to the Chinese market.
In Ba Ria City, Long Phuoc commune also has 41 hectares of durian with a yield of about 700 tons. Thanks to the application of VietGAP and the establishment of growing area codes, the product is well consumed.
