According to legend, Lac Long Quan was the son of Kinh Duong Vuong and Than Long Nu. He married the fairy Au Co and gave birth to a sac of 100 eggs, which later hatched into 100 children. To expand the territory and build a prosperous nation, Lac Long Quan took 50 of his children down to the sea, while Au Co and 49 of her children went upstream to reclaim the wasteland and expand the territory. The eldest son stayed behind to become King, called Hung Vuong, and named the country Van Lang. For 18 generations, all were called Hung Vuong.
