On the morning of August 28, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man attended the ceremony to honor outstanding science and technology (S&T) intellectuals in 2024 organized by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations. The National Assembly Chairman assessed that since its establishment, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations has gradually demonstrated its role as a nucleus to gather solidarity and promote the creativity of domestic and foreign S&T intellectuals, contributing to promoting the development of national S&T potential, making important contributions to socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security. "The Party and State always attach importance to and trust in the S&T intellectuals. Every victory of the Vietnamese revolution cannot be without the contribution of intellectuals, which is a very valuable contribution, very worthy of respect and pride," the National Assembly Chairman affirmed. On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the National Assembly Chairman acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts and outstanding results achieved by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and the team of science and technology intellectuals; acknowledged and commended 135 outstanding science and technology intellectuals honored at the ceremony.

In addition, the National Assembly Chairman also pointed out that the current mechanisms and policies have not encouraged and maximized the potential and creativity of the scientific and technological intellectuals; science and technology have not met the requirements of practice and the expectations of the Party, the State and the people. The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that the current context requires the country's intellectuals to have new awareness and scientific thinking associated with practical and effective solutions to make science and technology a driving force for national development. The Party and the State always care about and place their trust in the country's intellectuals. The National Assembly Chairman believes that the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, with its tradition of solidarity and promoting the achieved results, will continue to be the nucleus to gather, unite and promote the creativity of a large number of domestic and foreign scientific and technological intellectuals, contributing actively to building a clean and strong Party and State. At the same time, further promote the role of members of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in social supervision and criticism; promote and improve the quality of patriotic emulation movements, actively contribute to socio-economic development, ensure national defense, security, foreign affairs and prevent corruption and negativity. The ceremony to honor outstanding science and technology intellectuals is held every two years. In 2024, 135 intellectuals were selected for honor, including 3 Labor Heroes.
