Journalism and family life

June comes, the feelings of “writers” reappear through each story of life, career interwoven with sadness and joy. Journalism is associated with trips and writing, a difficult job, but for female reporters, that journey is even more challenging. They not only face professional pressure but also have to shoulder the role in the family, quietly overcoming difficulties to live fully with their passion.

Journey to test love for the profession

Looking back on her 10-year journey as a journalist, reporter Huynh Huong (Special Topics Department, Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station) calls it a "journey that tests her love for the profession", the days of wandering everywhere to "travel and write".

For her, every land she has been to, every face she has met, every sharing,... is deeply imprinted in her memory. After each trip, those images and stories come alive in every word, every frame, simple, genuine and full of emotion.

The most difficult time for Ms. Huong was not the long trips but the time she entered married life and motherhood. She currently has two young children, a 4-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl, while her husband often goes on business trips away. During the day, her son is sent to kindergarten, and her daughter is taken care of by her grandparents.

Every time she goes on a business trip, no matter how far the distance, she tries not to stop along the way, only hastily eating lunch to finish her work and return to pick up her children. The collected data can only be processed at night, when the children are asleep.

As a reporter, traveling a lot is a normal thing. Trips to the lowlands, border districts such as Tan Hung, Vinh Hung, Moc Hoa,... are not unfamiliar journeys for her. Regardless of whether the characters are in remote areas or border areas , she always tries to travel dozens to hundreds of kilometers with her colleagues, even though the roads are winding, muddy or the canals have to be traveled by boat. When she comes back late from early trips, when she thinks about her children, she also feels a little sad.

“During holidays and Tet, when everyone gathers together, we are busier. Having appointments with our children, husbands or simply having a family meal becomes a luxury,” Ms. Huong confided.

However, the greatest luck for her is having a husband who always silently supports, understands and is willing to share. He is the solid support that helps her keep her passion for the job.

For her, being able to live with the job she loves is a great gift. “Journalism teaches me how to empathize, love and also teaches me how to cherish every moment with my family. I am grateful for the silent sacrifices of my loved ones so that I can continue to move forward firmly,” Ms. Huong shared.

Keep the passion burning, keep the family intact

Reporter Phuong Lan (News Department, Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station) said that the most beautiful thing in journalism is witnessing, recording and spreading positive things to the community.

For a female reporter, that beauty lies in the balance between the softness and sensitivity of a woman and professional courage, dedication, perseverance and not being afraid of difficulties. But because of the nature of the job, she cannot fulfill her responsibilities to her family.

Reporter Phuong Lan (News Department, Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station) said: "Modern women need to balance between family responsibilities and career passion"

She still clearly remembers the time she covered the 2023 High School Graduation Exam while she was 36 weeks pregnant. The exam took place at the beginning of the rainy season, and despite being pregnant, she still tried to complete the task.

“After finishing the exam, I gave birth to a baby. It was a special experience in my career. I consider it a sacred gift when my child accompanies me on the meaningful journey of my career,” Lan shared.

Not working regular hours, and her husband working in the military, maintaining a family is not easy, but instead of being pressured, Ms. Lan and her husband always choose to share, encourage and understand. "In their free time, the whole family will play together and travel to make up for the time apart," Ms. Lan said.

Her son is now almost 2 years old. During long business trips, her grandparents on both sides are always a solid support so she can complete her work with peace of mind. Even though she is busy, she always takes the time to tell her son stories every night to maintain their emotional connection.

“Modern women need to balance responsibility and passion. To do that, they need support from their family, especially their spouse. And importantly, they need to keep an optimistic and proactive spirit,” Lan shared.

Behind the scenes of news bulletins, television reports or hot articles on the pages, are women who are mothers, careerists, keep the fire burning in their homes and light up their personal ideals.

Choosing journalism is not choosing glory and glamour, but they chose the profession with all their love and dedication, so if anyone has married their "other half" to be a journalist, please remember, they really need the sympathy of their partner./.
