On the afternoon of October 26, Mr. Huynh Van Khai, Director of SOS Phu Quoc Clinic ( Kien Giang ), said that the clinic was treating a patient bitten by a spider.
Doctor Doan Thanh Hien, in the emergency team, said that the patient, HTT (34 years old, residing in Duong Dong Ward, Phu Quoc City), came to the clinic at around 2:30 p.m. the same day. When he arrived, Mr. T. brought the body of a black spider and said that this was the spider that had bitten him about an hour earlier.
The spider bit Mr. T. while he was working.
After examination, the doctor determined that the bite was on the joint of the index finger of the right hand, the finger was swollen, the wound was bleeding, and the whole body was aching. The medical team proceeded to block the wound with Nidocain (2 tubes). Then, blood was taken for testing and the patient was given painkillers, anti-edema, anti-allergy drugs, and an IV to detoxify.
Test results showed high liver enzymes (a sign of poisoning), so the medical team asked the clinic's leadership for advice on continuing treatment and monitoring. If there were any abnormalities, the patient would be transferred to a higher level.
After 90 minutes of treatment and monitoring, by the afternoon of the same day, the patient was stable. However, the doctors still asked the patient to stay in the clinic for further monitoring.
Mr. T. said he was a technical staff at a resort in Cua Can commune, Phu Quoc city. At around 1:30 p.m. the same day, while working, he was bitten by a spider.
