After about 2 hours, the female student suffered severe respiratory failure and fell into a coma, and was admitted to the hospital on the evening of February 27.
Thong Nhat Hospital doctors quickly placed an endotracheal tube and put the patient on a ventilator. Currently, the patient's condition is stable and the endotracheal tube has been removed.
Also on the evening of February 27, a 50-year-old man in Tan Binh district was rushed to Thong Nhat Hospital after being forced to drink stimulants.
According to the patient, after the drinking party, some friends invited him to go to a beer club and take stimulants. After returning, the patient was lethargic and was taken to the emergency room by relatives.
The patient was diagnosed with Amphetamine poisoning in ecstasy, and was treated intensively, given fluids, oxygen, and vital signs were monitored. This morning, the patient was discharged from the hospital.
Doctor Hoang Ngoc Anh, Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poison, Thong Nhat Hospital, said that through testing, the "happy water" that the patient used contained the main ingredients of stimulants Amphetamine, Methamphetamine and Ketamine. These are particularly dangerous addictive substances that can be life-threatening.
Overdose of stimulants will cause respiratory depression, excitement, stimulation, euphoria, talkativeness, and neurological effects. More severe cases will cause convulsions, agitation, and even multiple organ damage, possibly kidney failure, myocardial infarction, and stroke.
Patients using stimulants are treated with supportive care and symptomatic treatment, as there is no specific antidote. Therefore, late hospitalization is very dangerous.
Every year, Thong Nhat Hospital receives an average of 5-7 cases requiring emergency treatment after using substances such as drugs and ecstasy. This is the first time the unit has treated a case of drinking “happy water”.
