Promoting cooperation in implementing the Green Circular Economy Project

On the afternoon of August 7, Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee, received and worked with representatives of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) in Vietnam to assess the progress of the implementation of the Green Circular Economy Support Project through improving the agricultural value chain in Northern Vietnam (in the old Bac Kan province).

At the meeting, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee expressed his deep gratitude to the Korean Government and Koica for their attention and active support in socio -economic development programs in Vietnam in general and Thai Nguyen province in particular.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed that Thai Nguyen province, on the basis of inheriting previous cooperation programs of Bac Kan province, committed to continue to effectively implement the agreed contents, and at the same time directed to review the progress and accelerate activities in the communes in the northern region of the province. He hoped that the cooperative relationship with Koica would become increasingly strong, contributing to strengthening the friendship between the two countries.

Mr. Lee Gun Woo - Deputy Director of Koica Office in Vietnam introduced an overview of the mission and development cooperation programs implemented by Koica in Vietnam, emphasizing the goal of supporting sustainable growth and improving the quality of life for the people.

The Green Circular Economy Support Project is one of the key programs, with an implementation period of 6 years (2024–2029), a total investment of more than 288.9 billion VND, of which 10 million USD (equivalent to 242.55 billion VND) is non-refundable ODA capital from Korea and 46.37 billion VND is counterpart capital of the province. The project aims to increase income, sustainably reduce poverty for farmers and ethnic minorities through the development of sustainable agricultural value chains, increasing competitiveness in the market.

The project has now been approved. In 2025, implementing units will be selected and Korean experts will be sent to support the implementation. The key activities of the project include: improving production and distribution infrastructure, building strategic value chains, enhancing capacity for producers, providing credit support for processing units and organizing local training.

The working session contributed to strengthening the cooperative relationship between Thai Nguyen province and Koica, and at the same time opened up new prospects in developing green, sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture in the northern midland and mountainous region.
