China has imposed additional tariffs on some US imports in response to tariffs Washington placed on steel and aluminum from the Northeast Asian nation.

According to the announcement, the Dispute Settlement Committee believes that Beijing should handle the situation in a way that meets WTO regulations.

On Washington’s side, the office of the US Trade Representative welcomed the WTO’s decision, adding that China had “improperly responded with unreasonable tariffs.”

China's Commerce Ministry said it is studying the WTO ruling.

The country can file a petition with the WTO's appellate body to object to the above ruling within 60 days from the date of this ruling.

However, the move could lead to another legal dispute as the US does not support the WTO's Appellate Body.

Since 2017, the US has blocked the appointment of new judges, leading to the body ceasing to function in November 2019.
