This is the season-ending event on the PGA Tour (the prestigious golf tournament system for men, equivalent to the Masters in tennis). According to the rules, 70 golfers will participate in the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
The top 50 golfers then advance to the BMW Championship. The top 30 golfers then advance to the Tour Championship, where they compete for the overall season title.

The most recent FedEx Cup play-off champions include Scottie Scheffler (USA, last year's champion), Viktor Hovland (Norway, 2023 champion), Patrick Cantlay (USA, 2021 champion), Justin Rose (UK, 2018 champion), Justin Thomas (USA, 2017 champion), Jordan Spieth (USA, 2015 champion) all present.
Only 2020 champion Dustin Johnson (USA) and 3-time champion in the last 10 years Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland, champion in 2016, 2019 and 2022) are absent.
Rory McIlroy was eligible to participate in this year's FedEx Cup play-off series, but the world's number two golfer voluntarily withdrew because he did not want to compete. Without Rory McIlroy, only 69 golfers participated in the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
