Nunez is about to leave Liverpool.

Liverpool are stepping up their summer transfer activity with names like Marc Guehi and Alexander Isak being targeted. While waiting for new players to arrive, the Anfield team is also speeding up the process of clearing out its squad. The next name to say goodbye is Darwin Nunez.

According to The Athletic , Liverpool agreed to sell Nunez to Al Hilal for a fee of £46.2 million - significantly lower than the £70 million offer that was rejected in January. Despite losing out on the £64 million price tag in 2022, Liverpool still decided to close the deal when the Uruguayan failed to meet expectations: scoring only 40 goals in 143 games.

The move not only marked a career turning point for Nunez, but also brought with it a notable personal hurdle. In Saudi Arabia, the law prohibits unmarried couples from living together—a rule that was once “exempted” only for Cristiano Ronaldo and his girlfriend Georgina.

Nunez currently lives with his longtime girlfriend and two children. If he is not officially married, he may have to live alone in Saudi Arabia, or find a way to “circumvent the law” like Ronaldo. Although the authorities in this country have recently been less strict on cases of foreigners living together without marriage, the legal and image issues are still something Nunez and Al Hilal need to consider.

As of August 6, Nunez is the 10th player to leave Liverpool in the summer of 2025. Along with that, the recruitment of Isak is considered a direct replacement for the Uruguayan striker - who was expected to inherit the role of Roberto Firmino but could not break through in the "The Kop" shirt.
